Deshabandu Sirisumana Godage, who rendered an immense service to Sri Lanka’s publishing industry, has passed away. He was 90 years old at the time of his death.
Born in May 1936 in the Palatuwa area of Matara, Sirisumana Godage rose from a humble family background and built his life through hard work and dedication.
He opened a new chapter in the local publishing industry by founding Godage International Publishers, which became one of Sri Lanka’s leading publishing institutions. By providing opportunities for thousands of emerging and established writers to bring their creations to readers, he made an outstanding contribution to the growth of Sinhala literature.
In addition to book publishing, he devoted himself to spreading knowledge in society by supporting book exhibitions, literary festivals, and numerous cultural events.
In recognition of his service to society, culture, and literature, he was awarded the honorary title of Deshabandu.
His wife is Mrs. Nanda Godage, while details regarding other family members have not been publicly disclosed.
The passing of Sirisumana Godage is regarded as an irreplaceable loss to Sri Lanka’s literary and publishing sectors.
