Ted Turner, the media pioneer who revolutionized television journalism by launching CNN, the world’s first 24-hour news channel, has passed away at the age of 87.
Born in Ohio and later becoming a prominent businessman in Atlanta, Turner was famously known as “The Mouth of the South” for his outspoken personality and fearless public remarks.
Beyond founding CNN, he built a vast media empire that included the cable television industry’s first “superstation,” popular movie and cartoon channels, and professional sports teams such as the Atlanta Braves.
Turner was also internationally recognized as a competitive yachtsman, a philanthropist who established the United Nations Foundation, and an activist who campaigned globally for nuclear disarmament and world peace.
